Anne has asked us to do something a little different - something other than cards. So I decided to create a Tic Tac Toe game using Alicorn and the Musical Rainbow as playing pieces (instead of Xs and Os).
SUPPLIES USED:
3 - 12x12 sheets of heavy cardstock
1 - 8.5x11 sheet of heavy cardstock
Chipboard - optional
Computer and Printer
Laminator and sheets
Glue
Hole punch
Color pencils or markers
Crochet thread
Drawer pull (or anything that can be used as a pull)
OUTSIDE BOX:
Cut a 9-1/2”X10-3/4” piece of heavy cardstock from a 12X12 sheet - score at 1-1/4”on the 10-3/4” side
Cut a 12”X12” sheet of cardstock at 9-1/2” X 12” then score at 1/2”, 10”, and 11-1/4”
DRAWER:
Score a 12X12 piece of cardstock at 1/2” and 1-3/8” on all four (4) sides.
CHIPBOARD:
Cut (2) pcs of chipboard at 9-3/8”X9-3/8” (optional)
Cut (2) pcs of chipboard at 1”X9-3/8” (optional)
I created a background using Alicorn and the Musical Rainbow (both images by Judy Markowitz and available on The Multi Craters Craft Cafe). I placed them in an alternating pattern on 12X12 cardstock, changing the color of both several times for a more varied look. I used Microsoft Publisher to do this. I then printed the background paper and drew a 3X3 grid onto one of the pieces (will be the top of the box). I scored each piece and folded along the score marks.
If you want a more stable box, attach the large chipboard to the wrong side of the two (2) printed backgrounds between the score marks in the large area.
Create the outside box by attaching the two (2) pieces of 9-1/2” tall cardstock together
(using the 1/2” score area of one sheet and the 3/4” score area of the other sheet) creating a box. Then attach a 1” X 9-3/8” piece of chipboard to the inside of each side of the box.
Drawer: Remove the 3 squares (created by the score marks) from the outside area of each corner of the 12X12 scored paper, leaving the last square at each corner as tabs (notch for best attachment). Glue the tabs to the inside of the near perpendicular side forming a box. Then fold the 1/2” section of each side into the inside of the drawer and glue them down (for reinforcement of sides). Attach a pull to one side of the drawer.
Slide the drawer into the box.
In a software program (I used Publisher), lay out 9 Mixed images of Alicorn and the Musical Rainbow at a size of slightly less than 2”. Place a 2” circle around each image. Print the page onto heavy cardstock. Punch out the images with a 2” punch using the printed circles as a guide. Color the images as desired. Run the images through the laminator. Punch or cut around them (either by fussy cutting or using a circle die) leaving a 1/2” border (2-1/2” circles). Punch 1//8” holes around the perimeter of each circle.
Using crochet thread, crochet an edge around each circle using the 1/8” holes to crochet through - your choice as to the design.
Store the playing pieces in the drawer.
Have fun!
Be sure to check out all of the images available in The Multi Crafters Craft Cafe.
Let me know what you think. I’m giving this one to my great grandkids.
